Careers that make a difference to the UK economy

Colleague case study - Vanita Narayan

The Bank’s values of commitment, creativity, and collaboration were a big factor for me.

Vanita Narayan
Digital Marketing Assistant

I start the day with running the daily stand-up with the team, where we discuss our priorities and any challenges that the members of the team might be facing.

From this I then try to remove any blockers or impediments that the team has so that we can all deliver on time for our customers.

This means that no day is the same as the one before.

I may not know all the answers, but when I get stuck, I can reach out to the wider team for help and support.

I really enjoy the variety and get the opportunity to collaborate on different projects.

Knowing that there is a team around me, with a diverse set of skills is incredibly reassuring.

I used to work in a marketing role in South Africa, then I recently moved to the UK with my family.

I was looking for something different and to take on a challenge in my career.

Digital marketing really excited me. I searched and found the job advert on LinkedIn where I applied and was successful for the position.

The Bank doesn’t restrict you. We’re encouraged to find opportunities for ourselves.

I have always worked for small companies and admired the structure, culture and processes of a bank, so this is what inspired me to join the bank.

Knowing the role the British Business Bank plays in helping to strengthen the economy and how it supports smaller businesses up and down the country was huge drawing cards as well.

To me, that presented an opportunity to work somewhere that was striving to achieve something beyond profit.

We´re not anchored to a desk – we can add value, no matter where we´re sitting.

With a hybrid way of working, the Bank has been great with its support, helping with equipment we need to work from home.

Working virtually offers more flexibility in your day.

We often have team meetings in the office, which is great to meet the team in person, work side by side and get to know the rest of the colleagues in the Bank.

During our wellbeing hour once a week, I can switch off allowing me the opportunity to take care of my physical and mental health which such a great initiative the bank offers to the employees.

During my spare time, I find myself always busy running and chasing my daughter who is 22 months old.

Going to parks and playgrounds, trying every soft play spot in London is top of the list and experiencing everything the UK has to offer.
