Guy Morell Managing Director, IT Operations

Guy is responsible for the Bank’s IT Operations, leading teams that manage, secure, support, and maintain our technology services. His remit includes translating the Bank’s operational requirements into a tiered catalogue of services—prioritised by criticality and data sensitivity—and ensuring resources are stewarded effectively and proportionately to risk and need.

Under Guy’s leadership, the team maintains and evolves our IT policies and standards, defends the Bank against cyber threats, promotes cyber awareness, and delivers regular maintenance and upgrades. They also manage incidents, ensure contingency plans are in place, and—when needed—offer the timeless advice to “turn it off and on again.”

Guy joined the Bank in 2022 as Information Security Director. Prior to this, he led Cyber Security and Network Operations at the Francis Crick Institute, and held senior roles designing, building, and running networks at University College London and the University of Oxford.

An engineer by training, Guy holds an MSc in Control Engineering from the University of Sheffield.
