Annual Report and Accounts 2025
Our Annual Report and Accounts reports on the performance of the Bank during the 2024/25 financial year.
A year of delivering strong impact for smaller UK businesses
The British Business Bank’s Annual Report and Accounts gives us the opportunity not only to take stock of our performance over the financial year, but also to look forward to future opportunities.
This year the Bank returned a statutory profit before tax of £144m. Our activities in 2024/25 are expected to produce an impact of 38,000 additional jobs and £8.0bn of gross value added over the life of the finance.
Over the course of the year, we significantly reshaped the organisation to prepare for an expanded mandate and long-term ambitions while meeting or exceeding KPI targets set against our measured objectives.
In a busy and productive 2024/25, the British Business Bank amplified its role, delivering significant impact in driving economic growth and innovation and playing its part in the economic transformation of the UK’s Nations and regions. - Louis Taylor CEO, British Business Bank
Across our commercial and development activity, our five-year adjusted rate of return stands at 4.2%. We expect our new funding of 24,000 businesses during 2024/25 to create 38,000 jobs and boost UK economic output by £8bn over the lifetime of their finance.
Impact Report 2025
This year, for the second time, the British Business Bank publishes an Impact Report alongside its Annual Report and Accounts. The report looks at how the Bank’s activity in 2024/25 directly supports the country’s economy, what outputs and outcomes are generated, and what impact we can expect from our activities over the longer term.

Supporting growth across the UK
With a proven track record on a nationwide basis in driving economic growth, innovation and jobs, over the next ten years we expect the British Business Bank to become a far more visible and recognisable institution, firmly embedded in the national narrative of smaller business growth and success. A rise in our total financial capacity to £25.6bn will enable us to increase annual investments to around £2.5bn a year and to crowd in even more third party capital.
