Its flagship technology, BLOOM⁴³, is the world’s first tech platform combining a wearable medical device and a mobile app designed to help prepare patients ahead of breast surgery to reduce complications and improve outcomes.

The BLOOM⁴³ device, which is worn at home, delivers ultra-precise thermal supraphysiological preconditioning™ to boost blood flow and prime the skin before breast surgery. Previous clinical trials have shown that this technique can reduce the risk of wound healing complications, such as skin necrosis and infections which affect up to one in three women undergoing breast reconstruction surgeryRead footnote text 1 .

With the majority of patients feeling both physically and mentally underprepared before surgeryRead footnote text 2  the BLOOM⁴³ companion app bridges a fundamental gap in patient empowerment and education. Designed with the input of a group of breast surgery patients, the ORCHA certified app is a comprehensive evidence-based resource intended for use by anyone undergoing breast surgery which includes a support community and an 8-week Prehab™ and Rehab program.

The platform won FemTech product of the year at the MedTech World award and has demonstrated substantial improvements in the patient experience and surgical readiness.

Plexāā is headquartered in London and, as of late 2025, secured several strategic partners to support its US rollout.

Support from the Bank

In July 2025, THENA Capital, a London-based Medtech specialist VC (£45m), invested £1m into Plexāā as part of a £3.3M funding extension round from its inaugural UK MedTech Fund, the UK's first dedicated early-stage MedTech fund and the first-all female GP team to be backed by British Business Bank via its Enterprise Capital Funds programme.

With deep commercial, clinical, regulatory and operational expertise, THENA Capital prides itself on its partnership-style approach, working closely with founders to unlock international scale and build enduring category leaders in their respective fields.

Impact of funding: what has Plexāā gone on to do?

This funding is being used to fuel Plexāā’s ambitious growth plans as the company focuses on scaling its production to meet current commercial demand. It recently announced the US launch of its flagship technology platform BLOOM⁴³, which is being piloted at Stanford University Hospital.

The BLOOM⁴³ app has been downloaded in 61 territories to date with hundreds of patients having gone through the Prehab™ program. The BLOOM⁴³ platform is currently being prescribed by surgeons at San Francisco Plastic Surgery & Laser Centre, Illuminate Surgery in Los Gatos, California, Loma Linda University Health in Los Angeles and NYBRA Plastic Surgery in New York, and is also available direct to patients across the U.S.

Plexāā is already exploring the application of its core technology into other areas of surgery, beginning with the development of its c-section platform in collaboration with a leading global healthcare institution. Plexāā’s goal is to make Prehab™ a new standard of healthcare for all surgeries globally.

Our success highlights how vital patient capital is for early-stage companies. The British Business Bank’s support, channelled through specialist investors like THENA Capital, helps bridge the financing gap that often constrains early stage MedTech firms. This investment and support have been key to continued growth and success.
