Our mission at the British Business Bank is to drive sustainable economic growth by helping smaller businesses get the finance they need to start, scale and stay in the UK.

Over the last year 30,000 further UK businesses received, for the first time, funding supported by the Bank. The growth of these businesses is expected to boost the UK economy by £8.8bn and create 39,000 additional jobs over the lifetime of their finance.

Our activities uplift economic output and create new employment opportunities in all parts of the UK. 87% of businesses newly supported this year were based outside of London, and this diverse regional spread means that each of the 12 Nations and regions of the UK is expected to receive an economic boost of more than £100m.

The £8.8bn of additional economic activity delivered represents a significant step up on last year’s total and demonstrates both our delivery momentum and the progress we have made in streamlining and simplifying our support to the market. Our Investment and Banking businesses now operate with greater flexibility to ensure UK enterprises can access the right forms of finance for their needs at every stage of development.

Looking to the coming years, we expect to generate even more impact for the UK economy. Our expanded financial capacity is one pillar of this, but at least as important is the private sector funding we catalyse through our activities.

2025/26 saw two notable firsts for the Bank that illustrate that catalytic effect. The £200m first close of our British Growth Partnership Fund I represented the first time that the Bank has raised external capital. Alongside this, the Bank’s ENABLE Guarantee transaction of up to £350m with Allica Bank, was the first such transaction to include a junior private sector investor within the structure.

These collaborations with private investors are helping amplify the scale of finance available for UK businesses, as well as enabling investors to diversify the range of assets they can allocate to. We look forward to using our increased firepower of £2.5bn a year, alongside the private sector capital we crowd in, to help even more UK smaller businesses achieve their full potential.
