British Business Bank makes commitments to Seedcamp’s two new funds

Press release 22 June 2026

The British Business Bank has made commitments to two new funds being launched by Seedcamp: Seedcamp VII, its flagship first cheque fund, and Seedcamp Nation II, which focuses on backing high potential portfolio companies as they scale toward Series B and beyond.

The British Business Bank first invested in Seedcamp in 2017 with a cornerstone commitment to its Seedcamp IV, followed by a £15m commitment to Seedcamp V in 2020.

Founded in 2007, Seedcamp is one of Europe’s most established early stage venture platforms with more than $1bn of assets under management. Seedcamp has a reputation as a ‘first cheque’ partner, identifying and backing exceptional founders as the first institutional investor. The firm has backed more than 500 companies, including unicorns Revolut, Wise, UiPath, Synthesia, Fluidstack, and Pleo.

Seedcamp VII will back AI-native and software companies at pre-seed and seed stage, while Nation II will back the highest potential portfolio companies from Seedcamp’s earlier stage funds as they look to scale toward Series B and beyond. This approach aligns with the Bank’s objective of increasing the availability of scale up funding.

Christine Hockley, Managing Director and Co-Head of Funds, British Business Bank, Funds said:

We first backed Seedcamp almost a decade ago and have seen them grow into one of Europe’s leading venture investors. The team has played a major role in building the UK’s startup ecosystem and these new funds will help create and nurture the next generation of UK tech champions.

Chris Smart, Director, British Business Bank said:

Seedcamp has established itself as one of Europe’s most recognised early‑stage managers, with a strong track record of identifying and backing category‑defining companies from inception to through to global scale. Their success demonstrates the depth of talent in the ecosystem and the significant opportunity available to investors.

Carlos Espinal, Managing Partner at Seedcamp said:

The last 20 years of European tech created companies that proved Europe could win. The next 20 will create companies that define entire industries globally from day one. That shift is already happening - and our job is to back the founders building before everyone else sees it.
